Shakhtyor – Obolon: Preview
We outline expectations for the match between Shakhtyor and Obolon in the 11th round of the Ukrainian Premier League 2026/27.

1. "Shakhtyor" has shown a high level of play
During the week, the miners with the best squad played in the national cup against "Dynamo", crushing their opponent 3:0 with two expulsions. The success was deserved: the Donchane advanced to the quarter‑finals.
In the league, the team has not been as successful: in the last round they lost two points to "Zarya" – 0:0. "Shakhtyor" played with an advantage, attacked, but could not convert the advantage into goals. With 25 points, the club shares the top spot in the UPL table with "Polesye" and is preparing for the decisive Champions League match.
2. The core will rest, and substitutes will recover from the loss of points in the last round
Next week the miners will play in the Champions League. Therefore, Arda Turan will prepare the core in the weekly cycle for this encounter. The Turkish specialist won the league last year with two squads and reached the Conference League semi‑finals. He now follows the same strategy. Therefore, the starting lineup should not expect Kawan Elias, Alisson Santana, Glaker Mendosa, and others. However, Alexander Karavaev, Yegor Nazarina, Dmitry Kryskiv, Isake, Traore, and Nevertón will get playing time. Veterans Eginaldo and Pedrinho, with injuries, will not be able to help.
3. "Shakhtyor" has a stronger head than almost all rivals in the UPL
The difference in class and level between the miners and other UPL teams is evident in the team's results in Europe and the league. While other Ukrainian teams stay in the qualifiers, they earn points in the Champions League. In the UPL they play with the second squad, which does not prevent them from winning and leading the table, scoring an average of two goals per game and practically conceding none. And when the core appears, the result is similar to the cup game against "Dynamo" – 3:0, with no opportunity for the opponent.
Obolon is historically a comfortable opponent for the home side. They have won the last 11 meetings against the Kiev team. Moreover, after the 3:1 victory in May, "Shakhtyor" left the brewers behind, breaking a streak of 10 games without goals. Now no surprises are expected either. After the mistake with "Zarya", the second consecutive failed match for the substitutes could be the last in the club.
Obolon Kiev
1. "Obolon" performs at its level
The Kievites played two matches in October. First they defeated "Veres" – 2:0, achieving the first win of the season. In the last round, as expected, they lost to "Polesye" – 0:3. The brewers fight for survival, not very successful, but they won the first victory and increased their chances of rescue. With seven points, the team occupies 13th place in the UPL table. The entire fight for survival lies ahead.
2. The strength of "Obolon" – a group without standout individual personalities
The absence of legionnaires, on the one hand, strengthens the team: everyone understands each other and can earn points with character. On the other hand, the problem is that a quality foreigner can make the difference. In the brewers' squad there are workers and two untapped talents – Dmitry Mishnev and Maksim Chek. Individually, we can highlight the goal‑scoring goalkeeper – Nazarij Fedorivsky: in his record he has a goal in the last seconds with "Chornomorets" and an assist, he is the best in the team according to the "goal plus pass" metric. He also performs his direct work reliably. This statistic speaks better about the offensive potential of the Kievites. In the next match it will be even lower due to the injury of Taras Liakh.
3. Good defense, but horror in attack and away games
The Kievites usually play well defensively this year, thanks to their squad, of course. But in attack, the brewers have problems: only four goals in nine matches – the worst result among all UPL teams. In addition, the team regularly fails in away games. In 2026 they achieved only one win in 15 matches. This year the team has nine away games: four draws and five defeats, only two goals scored and 17 conceded. With that statistic, the Kievites will visit the champion.

"Shakhtyor" has greatly improved its defense this year, and even the substitute squad has players who can decide the outcome of the match thanks to individual actions. Apart from the teams – they are at UPL level with Turan's group. "Obolon" each goal costs a lot of effort.
