Monaco — Nordsjælland: Preview

We outline the plans for the match between Monaco and Nordsjælland as part of the third round of the General Group of the Conference League 2026/27 season.

"Monaco" justifies its status as one of the Conference League favorites, with victories in the first two matches. "Nordsjælland" aims to reach the spring and began with two draws.

Key points

Monaco

1. "Monaco" started well in the Conference League, but the domestic league has seen a sudden slowdown

The third European cup appears to be a good opportunity for the Monégasque side to win the trophy. Filipe Luís’s team began confidently in the group stage. While the 2-1 win over Sofia’s CCA was achieved with class, the 3-0 victory against Europa League finalist Freiburg impressed with Monaco’s tactical maturity. However, the team has recently stalled. In the first home game they could not win in four matches. They lost the two‑goal advantage against Toulouse (2-2), were beaten away by Lorient (0-1) against a solid defender, drew 1-1 with Lille, and fell 1-3 to Paris, the biggest domestic disappointment of the season. Monaco now sits in seventh place in the domestic league.

2. Dayer returns, the team still struggles on the attacking flanks

In the match against Paris, Eric Dayer appeared after three weeks out. However, the English defender was not convincing, and in the Conference League he could be replaced by the versatile Jordan Téze. The attacking flank players – Ansu Fati and Stanis Idumbo Mumba – are still in the reserves. In the last round Filipe Luís had to use striker Matías Abilín on the left midfield and midfielder Eddan Diop on the right. Folarina Balogun, who scored against Paris, may start.

3. Monaco’s defence is not flawless

Filipe Luís plays with ball control, but his long experience at Atlético suggests he is also well‑versed in defensive build‑up. Nevertheless, Monaco rarely plays reliably from the back. After two opening rounds against crisis teams in Ligue 1, the side could only draw 0-0 against Freiburg, where the opponent’s poor execution helped.

Nordsjælland

1. "Nordsjælland" has a mediocre season

The Tigers now sit fifth in the Danish Superliga. The team can fight for the silver: they are three points behind Viborg but eleven behind the leader Midtjylland. In the last nine matches they have only won once, beating Esbjerg in the cup (1-0). In October the Tigers recorded five consecutive draws, including Conference League matches. The away result against Hartz (1-1) looks decent, but at home against Sofia’s CCA they lost a 2-0 lead with two minutes to spare against a not‑so‑strong opponent.

2. Defensive leaders return, Yansen suspended

Until recently the Tigers complained of defensive issues – captain Tobias Salkvist and the most promising defender Noah Markmann returned to the lineup. Both were not very convincing against Midtjylland (2-3), and the former scored an own goal. In the last match the former national defender Viktor Nielsen also returned. The Tigers’ central midfielder Justin Yansen, who received two yellow cards against Sofia’s CCA, will miss the next game. The form of the club’s most expensive player, Prince Amoako Junior, also disappoints.

3. "Nordsjælland" scores little by Danish club standards

Currently the Tigers have 20 league goals in thirteen matches. Given their balanced style and 3-4-3 formation, it’s not the worst figure. However, the Danish Superliga has trained its leading clubs in an offensive orientation and bright stars, including African legionaries. Now it’s quiet: none of the Tigers’ players have scored more than four league goals.

Prediction

Monaco vs Nordsjælland 06.11.2026 00:00

Monaco started successfully in the Conference League group stage, with wins over Sofia’s CCA and Freiburg. However, in Ligue 1 the team has stalled – they cannot win in four consecutive matches and have fallen to seventh place. The Monégasque side has serious problems with wide midfielders – they are forced to play non‑specialised players in those positions. Except for a rarity, Monaco plays poorly in defence this year.

Nordsjælland has a mediocre season – there are silver opportunities, but the gap to the Superliga leader is too large, and in the last nine matches the team has only won once. Defensive leaders, including the considered great talent Viktor Nielsen, are returning, and the only notable loss is central midfielder Justin Yansen. This year the Tigers do not shine in attack, and the main prospect Prince Amoako Junior disappoints. Assume a safe win for the Monégasque side. Prediction: 3-1
