Liverpool – Brighton: preview
We provide predictions for the match between Liverpool and Brighton in the eighth round of the Premier League 2026/27.
Liverpool, which has climbed to fifth place, will face Brighton, the most prolific team in the competition currently in third place, ahead of the Reds by four points.
Key moments
Liverpool
1. Liverpool is unstable, but has been winning more often lately
In the EPL matches against Brentford (2:1) and in the Champions League against Villarreal (4:3), Liverpool has taken its fans on an emotional roller coaster, failing first and then heroically recovering. The display of character is commendable, as the Reds have won seven of their last nine matches in all competitions. However, in the Premier League Liverpool has lost more points than it has won: only three of the first seven games of the season have been victories. Nevertheless, the three EPL wins occurred in the last five fixtures. The team is gaining form.
2. The space to rotate Liverpool’s squad is no longer as wide
In the match against Villarreal, Liverpool’s attacking leaders, Florian Wirtz, Bradley Barcola and Alexander Isak, had a brief pause, appearing only in the second half, and the defensive winger Miloš Kecz sat on the bench. The wider rotation was hampered by an increase in injuries: right back Jeremy Frimpong, playmaker Dominique Soboslay and winger Víctor Muñoz suffered varying degrees of injury in the match against Brentford, and only Muñoz has a chance of returning for the Brighton game.
3. Liverpool still has not won at home in the current EPL season
In the current season, Liverpool has secured three victories in seven official home matches. However, the games against Atlético and Villarreal were played in the Champions League, and Tottenham was eliminated from the League Cup. In the EPL, the Anfield owners have not won at home in five consecutive matches, a long streak not seen since March 2021, when the stands were empty due to COVID‑19. The same five and a half years have passed since Liverpool failed to score in three consecutive home Premier League matches. If they fail to score against Brighton, this sad series will repeat, considered an anti‑record in the club’s history.
Brighton
1. Brighton’s winning streak was interrupted
None of the 26 shots on target against Czech side Jablonec hit their mark and Brighton lost points in the Conference League, and could not extend the winning streak across all competitions to seven matches. However, in the last five games the Seagulls did not allow a single ball, and the last four EPL matches ended with a total of 15:0. The last English team affected by the Seagulls was Crystal Palace, which conceded five unanswered goals, one of which was scored from midfield.
2. Hürtscher applies an active rotation of the squad
In European clubs, Fabian Hürtscher allows the bench to move. In the match against Jablonec, nine changes were made compared to the EPL lineup against Crystal Palace. Brighton’s squad is full: nine players are in the team, some of whom have been absent since the start of the season. Among the injured, centre‑back Pascal Strijk, who missed the last three matches, is about to return, and his condition will be assessed in the final training sessions before the trip to Liverpool.
3. Brighton regularly loses at Anfield
In recent years, Brighton turns every home match into an exciting adventure with unpredictable results for Liverpool, but the Seagulls feel very uncomfortable at Anfield. Excluding the win in empty stands in 2021, in the other nine away matches against Liverpool between 2018 and 2026, Brighton lost seven games and drew two, conceding 21 goals.

Prediction
Liverpool vs Brighton
25.10.2026 17:00
Liverpool won five of the last six matches in all competitions, scoring 16 goals in those five victories. However, the only defeat came at home against Manchester City (0:3), and now another dangerous squad arrives that has scored 23 goals in seven fixtures, although not all of those seven meetings resulted in victories.
Brighton won six consecutive matches in all competitions, after losing points in the Conference League against Jablonec, but Fabian Hürtscher was able to use the second team in this match. Brighton scored 15 goals in the last four EPL fixtures, conceding none. However, the Seagulls have a very unfavorable record in away matches at Anfield, but in the upcoming encounter it will not be a key factor, as Liverpool still has not won at home in the EPL this season.
Let’s assume a good show and a draw.
Prediction: 2-2
