Hamburg – Eintracht Frankfurt: Preview
We count the predictions for the match between Hamburg and Eintracht Frankfurt in the second round of the 2026/27 German Cup. Both top‑tier German teams will face each other in the second round of the national tournament, although neither will be prevented from improving their performance in the Bundesliga.
Key points
Hamburg
1. "Hamburg" plays in the series and recently broke a negative streak
Hamburg started the new Bundesliga season not too badly. The "Dinosaurs" remain in the elite of German football, continue to trust Merlin Plicht and have earned nine points in seven matches, placing them alongside the strong "Augsburg" and "Hoffenheim". The positive change in the home side’s play came recently: three defeats in the first three Bundesliga matches with an overall score of 0:12 turned into three consecutive victories, and the good run was interrupted by a mistake against "Paderborn" (0:1). In the first round of the German Cup, Hamburg passed the modest "Ferl" (3:0) without difficulty, but the next opponent will not be an easy win.
2. Nadir and Vieira will not play, Muhi and Adelín in form, Poulsen helps
The home side’s lineup before the encounter with Eintracht is not perfect. The match against "Paderborn" temporarily removed Bilal Nadir and Fábio Vieira, although both, despite their attack‑focused profile, have yet to contribute much this year. Among the unavailable, Nikolaj Remberg will remain out with a patellar injury and there are doubts about Patson Daka’s availability, but the main architects of success are ready: Miro Muhi even contributes outside the first minutes, Yusuf Poulsen scored twice in his last four games, and Martin Adelín has played three very strong matches in the midfield centre.
3. Hamburg has stopped conceding many goals
This is perhaps the main reason for the success of the "dinosaurs" in recent matches. In the last five encounters across all competitions, Plicht’s team has conceded only four goals (in the other five, 13 were conceded), although in this stretch they played against "Stuttgart" with good offensive potential (1:0) and against "Hoffenheim", which averages two goals per match (3:2). Specifically against Eintracht, despite the quality gap, the result has been tolerable: only in three of the last eight meetings have the home side conceded more than one goal.
Eintracht Frankfurt
1. "Eintracht" would have started the season with joy
The return of Adi Hütter to the Eagles’ club seems an absolute failure. After a sad season in which Eintracht did not qualify for European competitions, changes were needed, but two victories in seven Bundesliga matches indicate a change in the opposite direction. The poor results can be partly attributed to a very dense schedule in the last two months, but defeats against "Augsburg" (1:4) and "Leipzig" (0:6) were too severe. Recently they failed to score against the tired "Borrussia" after the Champions League (0:1), and the win in the first round of the German Cup against "ST Tönis" (11:0) does not add bright colours.
2. No injuries or suspensions, players deliver statistics and cannot form a team
No squad problems are detected for the visitors, although only injuries and/or suspensions are mentioned. What stands out is the strong statistics of the Eagles’ forwards: Jonathan Burkardt, Youssef Ebntali, and Jan Uzuan already sum 24 goal actions this season, but in the last three matches the trinity only manages one goal from Ebntali. In defence, Robin Köch and Lilian Braza play quite well, and midfielder Noel Azeko makes good use of his minutes, but again some players fail to deliver the desired successes.
3. Eintracht rarely loses to Hamburg
In the last 15 years the teams have faced each other 15 times, of which only two ended with the Eagles’ defeat. Of the remaining 13 matches, seven ended with the visitors’ victory and six ended in a draw, including four of the last eight encounters. Eintracht’s main advantage should be the defence, which has not conceded a goal in five of the last eight matches and has only once conceded more than one goal.

Prediction
Hamburg vs Eintracht Frankfurt 27.10.2026 21:00
Hamburg managed to add considerably after a horrible run and in the last month does not seem so defenseless. In the last five matches, the dinosaurs achieved four victories, and unlike the start of the season, they have not conceded many goals, although in the game against "Paderborn" they should have shown more.
Eintracht, after the return of Adi Hütter, only won two of seven Bundesliga matches, conceding 17 goals in that period. The powerful attack of the Eagles has stalled after a good run, and the players who play well individually cannot form a cohesive team.
The match could be quite tight. Hamburg has recently strengthened, and Eintracht failed to score against the tired "Borrussia" (0:1) in the last round, and against the general decline, they probably will not offer unforgettable football.
Prediction: 1-1
