We provide predictions for the match between Bayern Munich and Magdeburg in the second round of the 2026/27 German Cup.
"Bayern" continues to defend the German Cup title. The modest "Magdeburg" from the 2. Bundesliga will try to contain the Munich side.

1. "Bayern" remains unbeaten
After the international break, draws became common – from 10 to 21 October Bayern split points in three of four matches. But two losses were in the Champions League. At home the team lost to "Augsburg" (2:2), but after that almost without problems beat "Leipzig" and "Freiburg" – two victories with a total of 9:2.
After seven Bundesliga rounds, 17 of 21 possible points have been earned. "Bayern" leads the table, but is level with Dortmund "BVB". On Saturday they face "Der Klassiker" – a battle for supremacy. For now, unnecessary nerves in the Cup must be avoided, especially after the hospitalization of Vencan Kompaní, who is advised to rest.
2. Bayern still suffers losses
Josua Kimmich has already lost two consecutive matches and now the fullback received several days to overcome a family loss. Defender Kim Min Jae started training, only outside the main squad. The same applies to midfielder Aleksandar Pavlovich, although his participation in the Cup is considered more likely. Manuel Neuer’s recovery will not be rushed, so the goalkeeper will be Jonas Urbach again.
3. Bayern does not forgive opponents at home
So far only "Arsenal" has stayed at "Allianz Arena" – and even missed two goals, avoiding defeat in the last minutes. All other matches ended with a great victory. Bayern has always scored at least five goals; in three Bundesliga rounds they have scored 18 in total – more than 16 of 17 clubs in seven matches, considering away (only "Leipzig" with 20 goals). Bayern rarely stops at the end of the match, even if the lead seems excessive. However, at the end the team can fail – as in the last two home matches and the two home encounters.
Magdeburg
1. Magdeburg in fifth place in the 2. Bundesliga
Although stability is lacking: after the summer series of three wins with the Cup, the team deviates every second league turn. On Saturday Magdeburg beat "Karlsruhe" – 6:1 at home. But before they lost to another lower-table club – "Dynamo Dresden" (0:2). In nine matches they have earned 16 points. Magdeburg is in fifth place, only behind "Wolfsburg" on goal difference. Only two points are missing for second place. It sounds solid, considering that spring pushed them to the limit.
2. The fullback Michel can return to the starting XI
The main midfielder of Magdeburg recovered from an injury that prevented him from playing two consecutive matches. But recently, after a month of absence, Falco recovered and was given a little over 15 minutes. Before the injury, Michel played without substitutions. If in a few days he achieved the necessary form, he should now start. The fullback already showed his value in the German Cup: in the first round he scored a brace.
3. Magdeburg has a modest record in away stadiums
In previous seasons, away Magdeburg seemed more secure than at home, but now the picture is different. In their own stadium they have won 12 of 15 possible – the best result in the 2. Bundesliga alongside "Gert". Away only four of 12 (9th place). Although in August Magdeburg scored two consecutive away blowouts: after a quiet win over "Ossnabrück" (3:0) they beat "Balinger" of the fifth division (4:0) in the first round of the Cup. But then they lost to "Gert" (1:2) and "Dynamo Dresden", and among them there was a draw with "Groyter Furt".

After the international break, Bayern has had many draws, but at home everything is fine – the team has just beaten "Freiburg" (3:1) despite alarming news about the loss of consciousness and the hospitalization of Kompaní. In the Bundesliga, Bayern has not seen "Leipzig" (6:1) – and those blowouts at "Allianz Arena" are not surprising. Except for the clash with "Arsenal" in the Champions (2:2), the Munich side won all home matches by a margin of four goals.
"Magdeburg" only managed to escape relegation in the spring. This year seems luckier: the team is in fifth place and close to second. But home results are modest – even in the league they have won four of four matches. The chances of containing "Bayern" are almost nil, and in Munich a small miracle will be needed.
