Venice ‑ Udine: preview
We have the lineups for the match between Venice and Udine in the 11th round of Serie A 2026/27.
"Venice" and "Udine" are the main surprises in Serie A at the moment. Venice changed coaches four matches ago, and Udine will play its first match under the direction of Paolo D’Angelo.
Key moments
Venice
1. Venice returns to a streak of failures
The team changed coaches and started under David Nicola with the surprise of a win over "Napoli" (1:0). But then it didn’t work: they lost to "Genoa" (0:1), "Inter" (0:2) and "Como" (0:1). Between these matches there is a difference: the Venetians played evenly against "Genoa" and "Inter" and lost only due to lack of effectiveness, while against "Como" they could create almost nothing – 0.17 xG for Venice. The coach’s enthusiasm remains intact, and the upcoming match with Udine seems very important.
2. Buzio returns to the starting XI, Yeboah competes with Lauberbach
Venice has injured players that would be desirable in the squad (Marin Schverko, Thierry Correa, Bartol Franich), but overall David Nicola’s lineup is practically optimal. The coach has options, especially that midfielder Gianluca Buzio has recently returned, and in the match against Como he started in a 3‑5‑2 formation. The choice of the trio of central defenders and the goalkeeper is unquestionable, but on the left side in defense, Ridgheiano Haps competes with Pasquale Mazzocchi, and in attack John Yeboah is already in the second consecutive match on the bench, leaving room for Lione Lauberbach, whose last official goal was in February (against Cosenza in Serie B).
3. Venice plays well at home, despite defeats In four of five home matches in Serie A, Venice lost. But don’t rush to dismiss David Nicola’s team. First, it has a win over "Napoli" (1:0), which took time. It can be said that it compensated for the previous matches against "Lecce" and "Lazio" (both 0:2), when the hosts created 5.08 xG but did not convert.
Against "Inter" the team also performed excellently, so the match against the psychologically broken Udine is a good opportunity to win three points and compensate for the September loss (1:2) in the round of 16 of the Italian Cup in Udine.
Udine
1. Changes in Udine: D’Angelo replaces Runia The resignation of Costas Runia was not a surprise, as Udine, after a good start in Serie A, fell into a coma from which it has not yet recovered. The resignation seemed more logical after the boring 0:0 draw with "Parma" and the loss to "Roma" (2:5). On the other hand, 0:4 in the first half against "Friuli" was too painful for the board and the fans.
The club focused on the candidacy of Paolo D’Angelo. D’Angelo is not a new figure in Serie A: the coach has regularly worked with teams in the lower part of the table ("Verona", "Empoli", "Venice"), which sometimes showed pleasant football. The coach bets on running work and physical power, so the players will stay in their element.
2. Sole and Bayo recover from injuries Paolo D’Angelo, in addition to returning to the coaching role, has important youth players at his disposal. Omar Sole and Vakun Bayo, after injuries, started training and will be ready for the match against Venice, although it is not certain they will be in the first minutes of play. The coach needs players in good physical shape. Regarding the lineup, it will not change much: D’Angelo prefers the 3‑4‑2‑1/3‑4‑3 formation with three central defenders. Nicolò D’Angelo and Jürgen Eckelkamp will help Kianan Davis in attack.
3. D’Angelo must improve the defense Udine a little, but scores (11 goals in ten matches). What concerns most is the defensive play. In ten matches, Udine conceded 23 goals – the same as "Fiorentina". The worst situation is only in "Monza" (24) and "Sassuolo" (26). That is very atypical for Udine, which traditionally was known as a team with reliable defense and strong grip. Therefore, even the visit to Venice, stuck in a wall of failures, seems complicated – considering how long the new coach has been with the team.

Prediction
Venice vs Udine 06.11.2026 23:45
Venice, after beating "Napoli" (1:0), has not won in the next three matches. But David Nicola’s team should not be dismissed. In the three matches against "Genoa", "Inter" and "Como" the team only lost to Cesc Fabregas’s players. Venice played bravely under Giovanni Stroppe, but even under David Nicola it does not close in its own field. And the match with Udine is an opportunity to add almost a clean points table.
"Udine" lost heavily at home to "Roma" and said goodbye to Costas Runia. Instead of him, the head coach is Paolo D’Angelo, a solid specialist in working with lower-ranked teams, whose prerogative is to keep the place in Serie A. Udine’s team is not in a survival fight, so it is more interesting how quickly the coach will adjust the team to his style, starting with defense. We assume that in this context the owners are closer to victory.
Prediction: 2-1
