Montaño – Cagliari: preview

We have the predictions for the encounter between Montaña and Cagliari in the seventh round of Serie A 2026/27. The sensational Cagliari, ranked among the top five teams in the league, will play away against Montaña, whose matches are always distinguished by their productivity.

KEY KILOS

Montaño

1. Montaña is in the outsiders zone, but watching the team is interesting. The Brancoli try to play attacking, act boldly, but almost never get results. It is a pity that the schedule so far has not been the most demanding for the team: in the matches against Udine (1:2), Parma (1:1) and Lecce (2:3) they should have won more.

In Italy there is the case of Venice, where the board recently resigned Giovanni Stroppu with his offensive preferences, but the situation of Ivan Yurchi seems more stable: let’s keep watching his creative impulses.

2. Goglichidze in central defense and the variety of players in the attack line

Lorenzo Lucchi – a young talented player who led his team to elimination in the match against Lazio. The trio of central defenders with Eddi Quadio and Andrea Carboni in the match with Cagliari is ready to integrate Sabá Goglichidze. The Georgian fit well into the Serie A season, scoring on his debut against Lazio. The positions of full-backs Samuel Birindelli and Ricardo Mangasha, central midfielders Michael Folorunsho and Ebenezer Akinsanmiro, and striker Gustavo Varela are the least contested.

Regarding the attacking midfielders in the 3-4-2-1 formation there is a good variety: Cyril Ngonge, Patrick Kutrone, Esquivel Ceballos, Jay Robinson and Danny Mota compete for two spots. Luck sends Kutrone and Robinson to the core.

3. Will Montaña reveal Cagliari’s offensive potential?

80% of all Montaña’s matches in the season (including the two friendlies against Brest and Cremonese) revealed a trend: matches with the white‑reds are never boring. In six matches four or more goals were scored, in two three, and in one two. Only the Torino – Montaña game (0:1) ended with a single goal. In terms of spectacularity, Ivan Yurchi’s team is one of the leaders in Serie A: 24 goals in total. And in Montaña – Cagliari opponents – their real equivalent: their matches do not provide productivity – nine goals in eight matches, and only in two were there more than two goals per game. Will Ivan Yurchi find a way to face the defensive system of the blue‑reds?

Cagliari

1. Cagliari resisted against Juventus, extending the unbeaten streak

The impressive streak of three wins for Cagliari ended, but Fábio Pizzacane’s team, remaining among the worst in the league in attack and productivity, still holds the fifth position in Serie A. In the last match, the Sardinians at home held Juventus (1:1), without creating anything serious against the opponent’s goal, but making their only chance. Juventus recovered, and that seemed fair. It is expected that in Cagliari’s away matches it will become increasingly difficult to keep the bar.

2. Pizzacane has no reason to change the lineup

The current situation and the current game fully satisfy the head coach. There are no massive injuries, although the return of Matteo Treppi would increase competition in midfield. The only possible change is in the central midfielder: Yannis Masson will give way at the start to Alessandro Deile, who will play alongside Alessandro Romano and Harry Winks – the latter adapted very well during his second arrival in Serie A. In attack, Paul Mendy and Daniel Maldini show great potential, with Maldini scoring four goals in his last four matches.

3. Cagliari prefers to score first

One of the characteristics of Cagliari’s current success is the open score first. The Sardinians are not a team that crushes the opponent with activity and then retreats to defense to achieve results. The situation is another: the better the opponent looks and the more attack, the more opportunities Cagliari has. In five league matches where the blue‑reds scored, they always opened the score, and three times the opponents did not respond. Since Montaña plays aggressively and riskily, Cagliari has something to eat. Moreover, Ivan Yurchi’s team let nine goals slip in the first 45 minutes. For Pizzacane’s note.

Forecast

Montaña vs Cagliari 19.10.2026 20:30
After six rounds, Montaña earned only four points. Partly it is the fault of Ivan Yurchi’s style: the priority is active football with high pressure and a high defensive line, and the players do not always maintain the level. But Montaña’s matches are interesting even for the neutral fan: with goals everything is fine. But against the opponents – the sensational Cagliari, modest in productivity.

13 points in six rounds – credit to Fábio Pizzacane. With all the truths and lies, and with a bit of luck, the blue‑reds extended the unbeaten streak to four matches, ending with a draw against Juventus in the last game. Cagliari is not productive, but at the same time tends to disappoint opponents – and does so first, giving them great discomfort. It is expected that Ivan Yurchi will find a way not only to stop Cagliari, but also to surpass them.

Prediction: 2-1
