ML Vitebsk – Neman: Preview

We provide the forecasts for the ML Vitebsk vs Neman encounter in the 25th matchday of the 2026 Belarusian league.

The reigning champion and Superleague leader, ML Vitebsk, will host Neman, another ambitious club that aims for medals in the current season.

ML Vitebsk

1. ML Vitebsk returned to life after Skolinsky’s resignation

Filip Skolinsky did not lose a single Belarusian league match while at the helm of ML Vitebsk, but due to the large number of draws that prevented a fight for the golden medals he was dismissed, along with two other predecessors in the role during this season. However, this time the effect of the changes was more than impressive: three consecutive victories with a total of 13:2, and only Torpedo-BelAZ, in the recent postponed match, managed to keep the “geese” to fewer than five goals. The game against the “car manufacturers” was the first official match under the new coach Juan Díaz, whose previous position was at the Russian club Rostov.

2. One of ML Vitebsk’s top scorers is injured, but there is a replacement

The postponed match against Torpedo-BelAZ was played on Thursday, so in the tight schedule Juan Díaz rested right‑back Sergey Balanevich, centre‑back Ole Abdullah and playmaker Valery Gromyko. Due to medical reasons, ML Vitebsk only lost one position, but it is significant: Bassuk Diabaté remains unavailable after an injury; at the time of the injury he was the team’s top scorer. However, during Malia’s two absences, Artem Konetsov, who scored three goals, replaced him very effectively, causing the Belarusian to surpass Diabaté in the internal top‑scorer ranking.

3. The Vitebsk side does not easily compete with Neman

The first encounter of ML Vitebsk with Neman was a friendly, but that winter match before the 2024 season ended in an atypical way for friendlies: a 0‑0 draw. The difficult nature of the Vitebsk matches against the gordneños will become the trend: ML Vitebsk barely beat Neman in two Belarusian league fixtures – 1:0 at home in 2025 and 2:1 away with the winning goal in the 93rd minute of the current competition. However, there were also two failures: a loss in the Superleague (1:3) and the penalty shootout loss in the 2026 Belarusian Supercup after 2:2 at full time.

Neman

1. Neman in excellent form and competing for third place

The team of Igor Kovalevich finished the first half “with the wheels down”, losing almost in every match, but the second half of the year has been almost perfect: nine wins with only one draw and one loss in the last 11 official matches. Four consecutive victories, including those over the traditionally tough opponents Torpedo‑BelAZ and BATE, and also over Isloch, who recently was the league leader. All these successes have allowed Neman to approach the trio of medals within one win, although with an extra match in their active schedule.

2. Two key Neman players will not be able to play against ML Vitebsk

Due to injury, Igor Kovalevich cannot count on Kirill Veidiger, who was the team’s main goalkeeper in the first half of the year, nor on centre‑backs Ilya Kiro and Aleksei Shalashnikov. But the most significant losses for Neman in the match against ML Vitebsk came for other reasons. Defender Sherif Zhimo, who recently closed the problematic position in the centre of defence, will not play due to an excess of yellow cards, and the best midfielder of the Belarusian league at the end of 2025, Ruslan Lisakovich, will not face his former club because of the loan contract terms.

3. Neman has been scoring regularly at home recently

Neman scored fewer than two goals in only one of the seven official away matches in the second half of the year. However, the “yellow‑greens” fans must be alert because the only problematic match in terms of home effectiveness was precisely the visit to Vitebsk, although against another almost identical opponent. The match against FC Vitebsk ended in a narrow defeat, but this time it will be even harder, as ML Vitebsk has a more active and louder home crowd.

Prediction

ML Vitebsk vs Neman 18.10.2026 21:00

The direction of ML Vitebsk changes coaches like gloves, but for now this strategy seems to work: the last dismissal gave the Belarusian league leader team strength and energy, after which the “geese” scored 12 goals in the last three matches, achieving three solid victories, continuing the unbeaten streak in the Superleague, which already has 12 matches. However, Neman is not a gift, as ML Vitebsk has not given up the four official matches with this club. Moreover, Igor Kovalevich’s team has had great performance, with seven wins in the last eight matches and scoring two goals in the last four home visits.

Let’s assume the visitors will do well in Vitebsk, but the match of two worthy rivals in good form will not reveal a winner.

Prediction: 2-2
