Krasnodar – Zenit Saint Petersburg: Preview
We discuss the lineups for the encounter between Krasnodar and Zenit in the 10th round of the 2026/27 Russian Premier League. A big match between the strongest clubs in the RPL in recent years. So far "Krasnodar" is ahead, but if they lose they will allow "Zenit" to take the lead.

1. "Krasnodar" remains on top, but the advantage has narrowed
For a long time the team advanced without stumbling. "Krasnodar" started with six consecutive wins in the RPL, and at the same time won the first three matches of the season (although two of them were by penalties).
However, throughout the series it felt that "Krasnodar" lacked solid support, and at some point the fragile thread broke. Before the national team break the team recorded three consecutive draws, although their opponents were lower‑half clubs – "Krylya Sovetov", "Akron" and "Oranbur". At one point the bulls lost the win at the end, in others they barely earned a point. "Krasnodar" does not lose and keeps the first place, but now the pressure comes from a series of competitors – so tight that if they lose to "Zenit" they risk falling to fifth place.
2. Cristian could return
The summer signing of "Krasnodar" integrated well into the team – in seven matches of the season he scored 2+2. However, before the big break he left due to injury. The Brazilian missed a couple of games, but now he should be ready to play.
Dmitry Vorobyov will also join. The striker left the national team early due to injury, but Murad Musayev reported that he is now training without restrictions.
3. "Krasnodar" has not lost at home
The last defeat was more than a year ago – in September 2025. In fact, then "Krasnodar" surrendered to "Zenit", and also with a shutout (0:2). But in that game the encounter could have ended better. Since then the team has not lost in 20 matches across all competitions. If we take only the RPL, "Krasnodar" has 12 wins in 14 matches. The few losses were not against the top teams – the defeats came from "Baltiya" and "Akron".
In the current season they have earned ten of the possible twelve points – with the lost points, "Krasnodar" shares supremacy with "Dinamo" Moscow. However, all previous rivals are below the ninth place, and the bulls have had regular difficulties – apart from the draw with "Akron" we saw three wins with minimal score differences. In the last three matches, "Krasnodar" conceded only one goal, and also scored a goal in each game.
Zenit Saint Petersburg
1. The first half of the year was irregular
"Zenit" won the Russian Super Cup with effort, but in the league they also made three mistakes in nine rounds. Moreover, the team has not had a single draw; all defeats were losses – the number of lost matches already exceeds the total from last season (2).
"Zenit" surprised "Rodeo" (1:2), and also failed big matches against "Spartak" (0:2) and "CSKA" (1:2). However, after the defeat against the military they did not give up and achieved important victories over "Lokomotiv" (2:1) and "Baltiya" (3:2). They have not managed to rise from fifth place, but the gap with "Krasnodar" has narrowed to three points.
2. Dviev doubtful
Zenit's main defender suffered an injury in the Russian national team – according to Igor himself, he felt discomfort in the calf muscle two days before the match against Nigeria. If Dviev does not recover by Saturday, Nural Alip could enter the centre of defence.
Positive news – the return of Vende. The Brazilian started working with the group, but due to the long absence of practice, it is still not certain that he will be ready to appear on the field from the start.
3. "Zenit" rarely loses to "Krasnodar"
In the entire history of the encounters, there were only four defeats, and under Sergi Semak (since the 2018/19 season) only one. In eight years, "Zenit" lost only in September 2024 (0:2) – and that game almost ended in a draw, but "Krasnodar" fired a double in the end.
Even if we consider the trips south, since 2017 "Zenit" has seven wins and one loss in nine matches. Additionally, recently the teams used to give close encounters, now they limit themselves to two or three goals.

Before the break in the league, "Krasnodar" slowed down. Although problems emerged from the first matches, Musayev's team pulled out the maximum and started with a series of six wins. Then there was a dip, and we saw three consecutive draws – although the opponents were eighth‑lower clubs. "Krasnodar" remains at the top, but another dip threatens to lose the first place – if they lose, they could fall outside the top‑3.
"Zenit" came out of the pause with good spirits, as in mid‑September they achieved important victories over "Loco" and "Baltiya". But overall the first half of the year was very tough. The team failed matches against "Spartak" and "CSKA" and already accumulated more defeats than in the entire previous season. "Krasnodar" is a historic rival, especially during Semak's tenure. But now "Zenit" is hard to call the favourite.
