Akhmat vs. Orenburg: preview

We discuss the betting lines for the Akhmat and Orenburg match in the context of the 12th round of the Russian Championship 2026/27.

The teams are close in the table, but while Akhmat is disappointing compared to its potential, Orenburg is rising above expectations.

Key points

Akhmat

1. No wins for over a month
This season Akhmat is underperforming: it does not stand out among the group of teams positioned between the top‑5 and the relegation zone. In the last month, a few losses have dropped them to 13th place. The team lost points unnecessarily against the bottom‑table side Akron (0:2) and the struggling Baltika at home (0:0). In the away match against top rival Zenit, Stanislav Cherchesov’s men were prepared, but they lacked class in the end – the Petersburg side won 3:2.

2. Román injured, Sidibe may be punished for the altercation with Sobolev
Akhmat’s biggest loss is the injury to central midfielder Giulio Román. In the game in St. Petersburg, Kalid Sidibe, who can play in central defense and the defensive midfield, quarreled with Alexander Sobolev, and the Russian Football Union may sanction the youngster. Cherchesov made several controversial decisions in the match against Zenit – he sent centre‑back Kirill Shchetinin to the midfield flank instead of the specialised winger Maksim Samorodov, who only appeared as a substitute. In the defensive midfield, Manuel Keliánu could start given the squad shortage. Mohamed Konaté scored after coming on and could push Georgy Melkadzé to the front line.

3. Akhmat has never lost to Orenburg at home in the Premier League
In recent head‑to‑head history, the Grozny and Ural clubs have had two goalless wins for Orenburg in Grozny, but both were in the Cup. One of them was won under Stanislav Cherchesov’s leadership of Akhmat. Overall, Orenburg is a comfortable opponent for Grozny on their own ground. In the Premier League there have been seven matches, and Akhmat won six – a significant advantage given the relatively small class difference between the teams. The last three meetings ended in goalless wins, and the only draw was in 2018 – when Orenburg had a successful season under Vladimir Fedotov.

Orenburg

1. Akhmetzhanov remains, Orenburg has long not lost The main news around Orenburg last weekend was the information about the imminent appointment of Ildar Akhmetzhanov to Rubin, where Frank Artiga has not been showing the best results lately. However, the specialist assured that he remains at the Ural club. He managed to lift the not‑most‑prestigious Orenburg squad to the middle of the table for the first time since the era of the more fully‑fledged quality legionnaires of Marcelo Lichka. The Uralites have not lost in four official matches – they scored four goals against Makhachkala’s Dynamo at home and against Rubin away in the Cup, drew with Krasnodar, and were close to beating Rodina but missed it at the very end (2:2).

2. The whole core in the lineup The match in Khimki against Rodina was energy‑draining for Orenburg – the team often fouled and left after eight yellow cards, but none of them led to a suspension for the Akhmat game. Recently the squad has stabilized. Forward Maksim Saveliev is injured, but Gedeon Guzina has found good form.

3. Orenburg has never won at home this season in the Premier League Ildar Akhmetzhanov’s team has noticeably improved its performance away from the home artificial pitch. However, victories came only in Cup matches – both with a 4:1 score, Orenburg beat Rodina and Rubin. In the league away, the team lost only once – to Moscow’s Dynamo in the very end (0:1). The other meetings ended in draws: the matches in Kazan and against Spartak (1:1) can be considered successful, while games with Fakel (0:0) and Rodina (2:2) saw the team lose points, and additionally, in Voronezh they did not score a penalty. The match at Akhmat Arena will still be one of the toughest away fixtures in the league, even with the current form of the Grozny side.
